How to play Sudoku
Sudoku is a 9×9 logic grid. Fill every row, column, and 3×3 box with the digits 1–9, using no digit twice in any row, column, or box. On the Daily, difficulty follows the weekday in New York time: Monday and Tuesday are Easy (about 45 starting clues), Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday are Medium (about 38), and Friday and Saturday are Hard (about 31); Practice lets you pick any level, Expert included.
How to play
- Tap a cell, then choose a digit — or use arrow keys and number keys.
- The given clues are fixed; fill the rest by deduction.
- Use Notes to pencil in candidates; each wrong digit costs a mistake.
- Undo takes back your last entry or note, but a mistake you undo still counts.
- Stuck? Hint fills in one square you can work out from the board, up to three a puzzle. A hinted solve still counts, and your result and share say how many hints you used.
Tips & strategy
- Scan for cells where only one digit can legally go (a "naked single").
- Work box by box, then row by row, to spot where a digit is forced.
- Pencil in candidates before committing — it turns guessing into deduction.
Accessibility
The grid is fully keyboard-playable and conflicts are flagged with more than colour.
