How to play Codebreak
Codebreak is a pure deduction game. A hidden code is a sequence of symbols in a set order, and each guess you submit is scored for how many symbols are exactly right and how many are the right symbol in the wrong position. From those two numbers you can narrow the possibilities until only one remains.
How to play
- Build a complete guess from the symbol palette, then submit it.
- Each guess is scored in text: exact means the right symbol in the right position, misplaced means the right symbol in the wrong position, and absent means it is not in the code. The markers ◆ exact, ◇ misplaced, and · absent back up the text.
- Exact matches are counted first and use up that symbol in the code, so a repeated symbol can come back absent.
- Your guess obeys the same copy limit as the code: Easy allows each symbol once, Standard up to twice, and Hard up to three times.
- Play from the keyboard too: number keys 1–7 add a symbol, Backspace removes the last, Escape clears the row, and Enter submits a full guess.
Tips & strategy
- Spend your first guess gathering information rather than trying to win. A guess with several different symbols tells you far more than a lucky stab.
- Change one thing at a time once you have a score. If the exact count rises, your change was right.
- Track what the absent results rule out — eliminated symbols are as valuable as confirmed ones.
- Remember exact matches are counted first, so a repeated symbol coming back absent is real information about copies, not a contradiction.
- Higher copy limits mean more possible codes: Hard is not just longer, it is genuinely a wider search.
Accessibility
Every score is given as text with ◆, ◇, and · markers alongside, so the feedback never depends on colour, and the full game plays from the keyboard.
