How to play Sum Sprint

Sum Sprint gives you a handful of numbers and a target, and asks you to reach the target by combining them. You build an expression a step at a time and it is worked out left to right, so there are no brackets to think about. Each number can be used once, and division is only offered when it comes out to a whole number.

How to play

  1. Read your numbers and the target.
  2. Tap a number, then an operator (+ − × ÷), then another number to extend your expression. It is evaluated left to right.
  3. Each number can be used once. Division only appears when the result is a whole number.
  4. The running total updates as you build, so you can see where you are.
  5. Press Check when you think you have hit the target, and use Undo or Clear to rework it.

Tips & strategy

  • Work backwards from the target. Ask what number, times or plus something available, lands on it.
  • Look for a large multiplication first, then close the gap with addition or subtraction.
  • Because it evaluates left to right, order changes everything — the same numbers in a different sequence give a different total.
  • Use the running total as a guide rather than planning the whole expression up front.
  • The Daily gets a little harder toward the weekend, so expect to work more for it on Saturday than on Tuesday.

Accessibility

Your expression and its running total are always shown as text, so you can check your work without relying on the layout.
