How to play Tic-Tac-Toe
Tic-Tac-Toe on 4Games is the familiar 3×3 game plus two variants that change it completely. Classic is three in a row to win. In Misère, three in a row LOSES, so you are trying to force your opponent into a line. In Wild, each move places either an X or an O — your choice — and any three in a row wins for whoever completes it. Play the computer at three difficulties, or pass the device between two players, as a single game or a best-of-3 or best-of-5 series.
How to play
- Take turns marking squares on the 3×3 board. X always moves first in Classic and Misère.
- In Classic, get three of your marks in a row — across, down, or diagonally — to win.
- If the board fills with no line of three, the game is a draw.
- Tap a square to place your mark, or use the arrow keys to move and Enter to play.
- In Misère, completing three in a row loses, so the goal is to force your opponent to do it. In Wild, you choose whether each move places an X or an O, and any three in a row wins for the player who completes it.
Tips & strategy
- In Classic, the centre is the strongest opening square — it sits on four of the eight winning lines.
- Playing second in Classic, take the centre if it is free; otherwise take a corner. Correct play from both sides always draws.
- Watch for double threats: a move that creates two ways to make three in a row cannot be blocked.
- Misère inverts your instincts entirely. Squares that feel strong are traps, so count what each move forces your opponent to do next.
- In Wild, remember your opponent can complete a line with either mark — every square you fill is potentially a gift, so check both marks before you place.
Accessibility
The board plays fully from the keyboard with the arrow keys and Enter, and each square’s contents are announced as text.
