How to play Odd One
Odd One is a visual deduction puzzle. Every tile in the grid shares one hidden rule except a single tile that breaks it, and your job is to find that tile. The rule is never about colour: it is about shape, fill pattern, pointing direction, the number of dots, or the inner line. You have three lives, so a wrong pick costs you but does not end the puzzle.
Or play Odd One Arcade, a real-time run played for a personal best.
How to play
- Look for the rule the tiles share — shape, fill pattern, pointing direction, number of dots, or the inner line.
- Find the single tile that breaks that rule and select it.
- You have three lives. A wrong pick costs a life and rules that tile out.
- Find the odd one to win.
- Play from the keyboard too: arrow keys move around the grid, Home and End jump to the first and last tile, and Enter or Space selects.
Tips & strategy
- Check one attribute at a time across the whole grid rather than examining tiles one by one.
- Start with the attribute that is easiest to scan — usually shape or dot count — and eliminate it before moving on.
- Use the text description of each tile. Reading the attributes is often faster and more reliable than eyeballing them.
- When two tiles both look wrong, work out which single rule the rest of the grid genuinely shares — only one candidate can break it.
- Hard puzzles use the subtlest rules, so slow down and compare adjacent tiles directly.
Accessibility
Every tile has a full text description and the rule is never about colour, so the puzzle is solvable by shape and pattern alone, including with a screen reader.
